Syllabus changes in A’LEVELS: Cambridge is known for changing its course syllabus every three years. Recently Cambridge released its new course syllabus for the A level which will be applicable from 2022 to 2024. For the past few years Cambridge is not introducing many significant changes to the syllabus, but this time there were several changes made both to the syllabus content and as well as to the structure of the exam paper.
Thus, it is highly recommended for the students to stay updated with the syllabus changes, so that they can prepare for the examinations accordingly.
NEW SYLLABUS CHANGES IN A’LEVELS PHYSICS SYLLABUS ( 2022-2024 )
There are some major changes made to the A’Level Physics content, some really important topics and learning outcomes have been removed from the course, so it’s not advisable to still go through those topics while preparing for the examination. On the one hand, where old topics and learning objectives have been removed from the course, on the other hand Cambridge has introduced new topics into the updated course syllabus. One of the major renewals that occurred to the course is the placement of A2 topics in the As course and vice versa.

- The chapter on Electric fields is removed and moved to the A2 course.
- Polarisation has been added to the waves.
- Units of LDRs and Thermistors are moved to AS course from the A2 course.

- Topic 16, called communications, has been removed from the course. Topic 21, called Electronics, has also been removed from the course. Band Theory of Quantum Physics has been removed.
- NMRI from Magnetic Fields has been removed.
- A new topic, ‘Astronomy and Cosmology’, has been introduced in the course. PET Scanning is added in Medical Physics.
- A new topic about discharging a capacitor is also added to the chapter on Capacitance. Momentum of Photons is Added in Quantum Physics.
- Electric Fields from AS has been merged with the A2 content. Now you’ll find the whole
- topic in A2 only

The chemistry course has always been challenging for students due to its lengthy syllabus. With the recent update, Cambridge has tried its best to ease students a bit. There have been many minor changes to the chemistry course. Thus, it’s highly recommended for all students to skim through the syllabus at least once. CHANGES IN CONTENT:
SYLLABUS CHANGES IN A’LEVELS
- A “Chemical Energetics” learning objective has been updated to have the equation: “ΔH = –mcΔT/n”
- (previously the equation didn’t have a negative sign)
- A change has been made to the notation when mentioning Hypochlorite ions (ClO-) specifically requiring them to be with a superscript negative sign.
- There has been a keyword change from ‘Class of Compound’ to ‘Homologous series’. The functional group of Alkenes now reads ‘C=C bond’ and the functional group for alcohol now reads ‘hydroxyl’.
- Within the Hydroxy Compounds topic, there has been a removal of the alcohol production reaction by NaBH4 and H2(g)/Ni and heat.
- There has been a minor change to the description of thiosulfate reaction observation within the qualitative analysis notes required for Paper 3.
- ” thiosulfate, S2O3 2–(aq) which gives off-white /pale yellow ppt. slowly with H+”

- The Data Booklet will no longer be provided with Papers 1, 2 and 4. Questions that require specific data will have it mentioned within the question.
- Section B has been removed from Paper 1
- Multiple Choice and replaced with the standard four-option multiple choice questions. The duration of Paper 1 Multiple Choice has increased by 15 minutes
- The weightage of Assessment Objectives (AOs) is now given as an approximate weighting
Furthermore, to have more clarity over the changes, it is highly recommended to go through the syllabus as some learning objectives have been re-catagorized and/or modified in order to facilitate better education.

For biology, not many major changes have occurred, the content is mostly the same as before. The only major change that has occurred is basically, the way in which students will now be accessed.
Furthermore, this time, Cambridge has forced onto the fact that the As syllabus will also be tested in the A2 examination. - Definitions added for Biological Species , Morphological Species , Ecological Species, Formula for Mark Release & Recapture to be quoted as the Lincoln Index.
- Extinctions moved from Selection & Evolution to this chapter.

- Previously, Paper 4 was divided into two sections, namely, section A and section B.
- With the following syllabus update, Cambridge has removed this division and students will only be tested on section A only.
- There will be no choice on paper 4.
- long essay-type questions will not be tested anymore.
- structured questions in paper 4 will have a hundred percent weightage in the exam. All questions will be compulsory for the students.
